Graham Geddes
Graham started to study the accordion seriously in
1975 when he was 14. Progression was swift and he
formed his own Scottish dance band in 1976. In 1978
he won "Junior Scottish Accordion Player"
in Inverness. In 1979 he won the "Scottish Pipe
Music Accordion Championship".
Graham and the band soon became well known when they
played on Grampian T.V. on a weekly basis and also
on B.B.C. Radio Scotland's "Take the Floor".
In 1981 the band became resident at the Beach Ballroom.
This arrangement lasted until 1993, and it was here
that Graham developed into a good vocalist, key board
player, and finally took up the saxophone, all of
which he taught himself. From this format developed
the Wedding Band, which continues to be very successful,
with bookings taken up to 2 years in advance.
The Wedding Band consists
of Graham on vocals, saxophone and accordion; David
Little on keyboards; Tommy Sutherland on drums; and
John Anderson on vocals and acoustic guitar. All have
been with Graham a long time.
The Band are well travelled,
having visited Cairo, Dubai, Bogota and Norway to
name but a few. They also regularly travel to Bangkok,
this year being their 11th visit for the St Andrews
Night Ball. While there they always visit various
charitable centres to entertain the children, and
have raised a sizeable amount of money at a recent
Stovie dance in Aberdeen.
As part of the Queens
80th birthday celebrations Graham helped organise
"A Truly Scottish Evening" at Balmoral
Castle which he performed at with his band in aid
of the Antony Nolan Trust.
Over the years the band have
produced many CDs, with some of the music composed
by Graham. At the end of this year a DVD/CD of Scottish
dances recorded at the Beach Ballroom will be released
through Highlander Music.
